Evaluation Mentioned in M2, I was tasked with giving out questionnaires to my peers and asking them to give me feedback based on the audio soundtrack I made from my animation. In M2, I responded to that feedback, explaining the criticism I received and explaining how I can improve the audio. This post will go into detail about the feedback I received and how I made changes to the soundtrack based on it. Based on all the feedback I received, I have decided to focus on the responses I got on question 6 of my questionnaire. This was the question that allowed the audience to make a more detailed response and tell me exactly what changes they would make to the soundtrack. The first response was in regards to the quality of the foley tracks. There were also a few other responses that were reviewing this aspect of the audio. They described it as being low quality and unintentionally distorted. Apart from this, they did not have any issues with the other audio tracks. I agree that the foley au...

Feedback After finalising my audio tracks (this means finishing edits and placing them into the same timeline as the animation), I asked my peers to review my animation with the audio included to assess what they enjoyed, what they didn't, what they would change and why. To do this, I created an online form for them to fill out. I then had them watch my animation and listen to the audio. Here are the questions I included in my form: I asked very simple questions in regards to whether they enjoyed the animation and if they thought that the audio was fitting in terms of the theme. I gained 8 responses in total, all of them containing some sort of improvement I could make. Question 1 Responses: The first question in the form contained a scale from 1 to 10, where the audience were able to say whether they believed that the audio was high quality or not: 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. Overall, the majority of votes were 8 and 9, however, a few voted for 7. I believe this is b...

Post Production Edits The rushes and unedited audio files can be found in P5. This post will breakdown the steps I took to finalise my recordings for my animation and how they differ to the raw unedited tracks. After I had finished recording my sounds, I imported them into Adobe Audition: I chose to use this software because of its variety with sound effects and ease to control multiple audio tracks in a multitrack. As well as this, Audition is the most viable software to use above the other Adobe software. The first thing I decided to edit was the gate foley sound, so I began with importing it into Adobe Audition. Before I moved the file into the multitrack, I moved the file to the waveform editor and split/cut the file down where it was necessary. I then began to edit the file in the multitrack editor where I can start to add effects and make edits. This screenshot demonstrates how I was able to edit and import the audio file into Adobe Audition. I split the file in the multitrack ed...

I chose to use this microphone over other types of microphones because of its convenience and sound quality. I was able to move and adjust the microphone with ease in terms of placing the microphone in front of the subject that is being recorded. For example, recording the sound of footsteps - I was able to hold the microphone near the ground where the footsteps could be heard. I recor...

Legal and Ethical When it comes to legal and ethical issues with audio, there are many things that must be taken into account. This is to ensure that the animation is legally allowed to be posted on several platforms without any problems. Copyright: Copyright law protects the original works of creators, including music, sound effects, and other audio used in animations. To use copyrighted audio in my animation, I need permission from the owner of the copyright or a license to use the audio. Otherwise, I could face legal consequences for copyright infringement. Slander: Slander is a legal term for making false statements that harm a person's reputation. If an animation includes audio that contains slanderous statements about someone, that person could sue for defamation. As an animator, it's important to avoid including any statements that could be considered defamatory. Offensive Language: Using offensive language in an animation can be problematic, as it can offend and harm ce...

Developing ideas for sounds in my animation For unit 16, I will be creating foley sounds and audio tracks for my animation that was made in my unit 10 (animation unit). Considering that my animation consists of abstract edits, shapes and colours, I will have to carefully produce sounds in correspondence to my animation and ensure that it fits the style. Animation without audio: For my animation, I will consider creating my files in MP3 and WAV formats. These formats differ in terms of compression and quality - WAV files preserve the quality, keeping it very high quality and clear, whereas MP3 files can provide the same WAV file but in a smaller file size. Depending on the size of my files (for example, sound effect files might be smaller but longer tracks such as music might be bigger), I will differentiate and alternate between file types. In terms of equipment, I have a range of equipment that will help me produce high quality audio tracks in preparation for my animation. This includ...
